Jennifer Lynde

Trauma and critical care surgeon in the Air Force.

Air Force | Trauma & Critical Care Surgeon

For ten years, Jennifer Lynde has practiced medicine where the stakes are measured in heartbeats and altitude. She is a trauma and critical care surgeon in the Air Force, double board-certified, trained through residency and fellowship while on active duty. Her work takes place inside aircraft cabins converted into flying intensive care units. She transports critically ill troops across oceans and time zones, carrying them to the next phase of care.

This summer, she and her Critical Care Air Transport team participated in a large-scale Air Force exercise. They moved mannequins, not patients. But the purpose was real. Long days refining policy. Stress-testing procedures. Preparing for the conflict, none of them hope comes.

The final briefing was delivered to Air Mobility Commander General Lamontagne. Afterward, he handed out challenge coins. A small object. Solid metal. Weighty.

For Jennifer, that coin is not about ceremony. It is proof that even a small team inside a vast military system can sharpen protocols, improve care, and help bring someone home alive.

She does this work because she has met the troops. She has cared for them. She knows one day the patient could be her. The mission is simple: give them the best possible care on the way home.

The coin sits as a reminder. Precision matters. Preparation matters. And bringing someone back to their family is worth every exhausting day.
